Neuro Linguistic Programming for Teachers

Teaching and learning are continually evolving with new methodologies and aptitudes with incessant study and research throughout the world. Education or knowledge sharing no longer happens in the same old traditional style of chalk and board and is becoming more interactive learning experience for both the Teacher and the Student. However, teachers must equip varied styles of teaching which are flexible and meet the requirements of the learner.

Every time when a teacher is busy in teaching there might be some student who would be looking out of the window daydreaming. What’s going on in their mind? What makes them disinterested in the subject? At this juncture, Teachers must have ‘I can do this’ attitude which unleashes many opportunities for them and the students they work with. Students can be stimulated by their own natural motivation strategies. There is no need to conclude that a student is either poor or low performing. They need not be stressed with poor performance rather they can be given the pointers to improve. Even a learning disability can be figured out and teach them how to work differently that improves their performance.

Preparing for Hyper-Competitive World

Every student is different and the teacher has to ensure they’re engaged in learning and see that he/she achieve the goals (of the school). Unfortunately, the goal is considered common for the different students i.e. preparing for them for the ‘hyper-competitive world’ and there’s catalogue of activities to be done by the teachers. Hence there’s a need to have well-motivated teachers who can enjoy with high performance. There is an utmost demand for professional advancement and training and this is merely done by the schools.

Consequently, teachers need to be equipped to handle the challenging behaviours and situations with more aptitude to evaluate the issues more efficiently. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) indubitably offers a great way out. A lesson plan for a teacher can help her understand what need to teach and when but a teacher enclosed with NLP skill can definitely know how to deliver and how to perform and make the students perform. This knack will further enhance the teachers to achieve the desired outcome in a more gratifying way.

How can NLP resolve the Teaching Issues?

The most important thing for a teacher is to develop enthusiasm and interest in the students and NLP resolves this issue by simple techniques like Anchoring and Rapport and gets the students on board of the subject. Students battling with low confidence introvert and dislike of any subject and more can be handled with language, positive attitude and through cues and communication. Right from bullying, there are so many other disorders or learning disabilities or Attention Deficit Disorders which some students may face and which suck out the Teachers oomph of teaching. Whether it’s Hyperactivity, Impulsiveness, Distractibility, Lack of organization, Forgetfulness, Procrastination, the ultimate common thing that happens to them is treatment or medication. Medication may be required in some cases but there may be far better ways besides drugs. The disorders usually are at a logical level of behaviour. Hence the more work is required to be done there rather than by giving some drugs or exercises.

Need is to enter Their World

Everyone has their own model of the world and it is updated through their senses. Everyone takes the information with their naturally dominant combination of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic. Students and teachers have their own set of dominant source of information. Now the catch is to enter into the world of students using the sensory channels majorly visual, auditory and kinaesthetic and let them do the anticipated task to achieve the goal.

Eventually, NLP can yield excellent results for teachers and can support them in customizing the learning according to their students. Sometimes teachers want their students to execute their commands and it becomes difficult as some students may demonstrate stubbornness, Presupposition is the way to make the students do as expected. For instance, a teacher may give priorities to do a task giving the message that both must be completed. Perceptual positioning is also another way to get into the shoes of the students and try to understand as what’s the challenge a student is facing or can resolve behavioural issues like bullying, obstinacy etc. At the outset, the teacher needs to assess the situation through their own eyes, secondly with the students’ eyes and third with a disassociated onlooker. Changing of positions physically helps the teachers trigger dynamic shifts to assess the situation.

Conclusion

NLP is a powerful process which can change the behavioural challenges and make the learning more flexible and seamless. A teacher can build the capability to cater the needs of the students and can overcome the learning challenges provided that she is endowed with the impeccable NLP training. NLP is not an anomalous subject either to isolate or to be non-cognitive. Teachers handling different age group students can enjoy the experience of developing the potential of teaching in them and the potential of learning in the students with various patterns of behaviour. With NLP, teachers essentially model personal growth, success and communication. Without NLP all the learning and education is a kind of miss.

Schools usually consider psychiatrists or child counsellors for the students whereas the concern might be with the teachers who try to install their filters and presuppositions in the students. NLP helps the teachers to elicit the actual perspectives of the students at a logical level which can influence absolutely. We’ve been programmed to say change is gradual and throbbing. NLP can cure any long-term hitch painlessly within no time and the results last. There is neither hocus-pocus nor is installed any new belief rather the present belief which is stopping to achieve goals will be suspended and turn the hindering beliefs into valuable ones. With the Organizations starting to invest in NLP, change may happen swiftly in education.
