Conscious Parenting using NLP

Conscious Parenting using NLP

As we think of coaching, I can recall Pete Carroll expressing it beautifully, “Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes, they need a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen.”

Resiliency is possibly the essential quality that needs to be honed to fine precision in a world constantly bombarded by change and unpredictability. People no longer possess the emotional maturity or bandwidth to process life’s numerous challenges. Most succumb to the pressures that life throws at them, and others commit unthinkable crimes that have to be seen to be believed. Youngsters need to acquire superhuman ability to stand tall when life doesn’t quite go the way they wish. In light of the massive changes sweeping the globe, I cannot emphasize this enough.

Parents have a crucial role when it comes to motivating their children. Children model their parents. There is hardly any other person who has a more significant influence on a child than their parents. Most parents are quick to jump to conclusions and never leave a stone unturned to ridicule their children. Others are hard to satisfy. Nothing is ever “good enough.” The child constantly feels like they are running a marathon that never ends.

The Good parent is not a rarity. No one is a bad Parent. As parents, most establish proper boundaries and have a listening ear. They are emotionally available and are a child’s biggest cheerleader. But, most parents aren’t blessed with what I call Conscious Parenting Skills. And, inevitably, a vicious cycle is set in motion that we can “thank you so much” but do without it. The most important key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents. Most Parenting is done unconsciously, and the unconscious has its own rules and criteria, which may not be the most preferred direction. The prime objective of the unconscious is usually your Safety and survival in all conditions.

There are many coaching resources, and people are gradually becoming aware of the limitless benefits that coaching can offer.

An NLP coach will encourage children to discard old patterns of thinking and embrace the new. Can coaching and therapy help your child to launch into the future with confidence? The answer is quite simple, yes. NLP, for example, can assist you in becoming a Conscious Parent.

I had a Parent who came to me because she couldn’t control her actions. She always wanted to be friendly and communicative with her teen Daughter but ended up fighting with her.

During our coaching sessions, I told her what my mentor used to say, “If you keep doing what you have always done, then you will always get what you have always got.”

Now think of a situation that frequently happens in your family. You would want to change it, especially how you react, the results you want to achieve, etc.

Could you write it down?

Step 1 – “I want to change …….”

Step 2 – What do I actually want – Write it in with positive wording

Step 3 – When I have it, what would I see, feel, and hear.

Step 4: What resources do I already have and what should I acquire, and from who and in what way.

Now Paraphrase your requirement with all the above four steps.

My Client worked it out on her communication skills with her teenage daughter and gave me this feedback.

“We are now best friends. My daughter is closer to me than her other friends, and we discussed many things about life and about making good decisions. I am so much relieved. Thanks to you, coach.”

This technique is called Well-formed Outcome setting in NLP – a simple but very effective technique to visualize, design your change plan and mobilize your internal and external resources. You can also use this technique to empower your children to imagine and create their change plan from any behavior they do unconsciously to something they can do consciously and with a Choice.

One of the signs of genuinely great Parenting is the parent’s behavior.” It is not what you do for your children BUT what you taught them to do for themselves that spell the difference between victory and defeat. Great Parenting is empowerment. Nothing more. Nothing less.

You can share your issues here, and the Coach will write back to you with a crispy and straightforward suggestion. Or I may write the next blog on that issue.
