Be the Architect of Your Own Destiny

Your desire to succeed is more important than anything else. Albert Einstein was considered “dumb” and incapable of rational thought. Mozart’s talent was deemed “average”. But, those external labels did little to douse the flames of passion. Albert and Mozart went on to achieve great acclaim, and are forever enshrined in the annals of history. Perhaps, they had a thick hide and external criticism had a minimum impact or they had that tunnel vision and knew deep in their soul that they were meant to make it big. Why is this important, and what relevance does it have in today’s context? Because, believe it or not, the stories that we tell ourselves have the potential to alter the course of our lives.

I read an incredible book years ago titled, “The battleground of the Mind” and it forever changed my perspective on the importance of positive self-talk. You win in your mind first, by conditioning it to analyze a situation from varying perspectives. The place where you are, right at this point is in direct correlation to the million steps you have taken up to this point and the billions of thought processes that must have ricocheted in your mind.

Life doesn’t offer second chances, and it’s imperative to condition your mind for success.

A prominent philosopher has compared life to a “fleeting wind”, that is here today and gone tomorrow. I have seen countless individuals looking at the distant horizon and reminiscing about days gone by, incorrect decisions made and roads they wished they had taken. Negative stories are like shadows that continue to haunt the coming generations. We, humans, are victims of conditioning, and a negative thought process is like a vicious cycle that has the power to derail an individual from his purpose. I have seen entire generations pay the price for strategic decisions taken at the most inopportune time.

Most of us might have been born in less than ideal circumstances. Endeavor to create lasting change by rewriting some stories. Have a clear vision for the future. Anticipate hurdles and have a defense mechanism ready. I have heard this statement echoed, “Success belongs to those who are able to withstand life’s variables”. Ask hard-hitting questions like, “What is my life’s purpose? If I had to relive my life again, what would I do differently?”. Clarity is power. Most of us go through life with “blinders on”, and are hit by a massive whiplash. Then, we don’t venture out again. What could have been a temporary interlude has now become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Endeavor to discover your inner talents, and work towards perfecting them. Stop chasing after multiple dreams and multitasking to the point of a breakdown. Write your thoughts and innermost desires and then work on creating a deadline. Without a target, one is susceptible to go off on a different tangent. Now, visualize your dreams coming to pass. Imagine the tiniest details.

Many individuals aren’t able to handle success, because even though they worked hard for it, they haven’t conditioned their mental capacities sufficiently to handle the demands that success eventually brings.

It’s ironic that most individuals die with the music still in them. Either they were a victim of a negative mindset or they were busy chasing someone else’s dreams or perhaps they were too scared to venture out. Whatever might have been the scenario, it’s a life that is characterized by regrets. Nothing is sadder than that!

Be the architect of your own destiny. Columbus didn’t discover America by accident. The Universe will aid you in your pursuit, but you must DECIDE to venture out. You must be willing to handle failures and be criticized. Let me reiterate, this is not a positivity summary or treatise. This is about the importance of conditioning your mind for success, and it’s not a quick fix. Take the time to discover the real you, and formulate a mission statement. Once you have reached the summit, empower others to do the same. Remember, “Your mind is a battlefield. If you believe you can be successful, YOU WILL!
